Mrs. Umar, Fatimah Abedo was born on the 29th July, 1972 in Okene, Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State. She had her primary education at the LGEA School, Etahi I from where she proceeded to the College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Okene (CAISO) for her secondary education where she obtained her Grade II Certificate in 1986. She had her Diploma in Library Science in the year 1992 at Bayero University, Kano. She obtained her Bachelor degree and Master degree in Library Science at Bayero University, Kano in 1996 and 2009 respectively.

Mrs. Umar, Fatimah Abedo started her career in Librarianship at the Federal College of Education, Okene Library in the year 2000 as a Librarian II. She rose through the ranks to the peak of her career as the Acting College Librarian of the College Library. She served at various times as member and chairperson of numerous committees namely; Motor Vehicle refurbishing Loan Committee, Information and Publication Committee, Library Welfare Committee, Welfare Committee of the College Muslim Community, Library Accreditation Committee, School of Education Examinations Monitoring Committee, College Orientation and Matriculation Committee, Sub-Committee on Accreditation to mention but a few. Mrs. Umar has considerable experience spanning over 20 years in Library and Information science, Knowledge management, E-learning and Information Technology. She has been promoting the digitization of the College Library and adoption and use of IT resources in the Library.

Mrs. Umar is a prolific scholar who has attended numerous conferences and presented insightful papers in her field. She has published over 37 articles in reputable referenced works and presented over 21 academic papers in conferences and workshops.

She belongs to the following professional bodies;

• Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN)

• Nigerian Library Association (NLA)

• Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN)

• National Association for the Advancement of Knowledge (NAFAK)

• National Association for Research and Development (NARD)

Mrs. Umar Fatimah Abedo’s vision is to leverage on the potential and promises of ICT to develop and automate the College Library for smooth operations and effective service delivery.
